Responsible Investing Education with the HIGHLAND Team

HIGHLAND team members AnnaMarie Mock, Ed Leach, Lauren Libert, and Rich Anderson presented a responsible investing educational event at Gelotti in Montclair, New Jersey on October 3rd. The event addressed how investors can align their personal values with their investing dollars and focused on three main questions: what is responsible investing, how can my investment reflect my values, and how can my investments make an impact?


Morgan Nover Volunteered at Schwab Impact 2018 Conference

HIGHLAND’s intern Morgan Nover, a junior at William Paterson University, volunteered to attend the Schwab Impact 2018 conference in Washington, D.C. from October 28th to October 31st. Morgan was one of five William Paterson University financial planning students who volunteered and was among eighty students invited by Schwab to attend the event to network, participate in panels about talent acquisition and diversity, and attend learning sessions. Notable speakers at the Schwab Impact 2018 conference included Janet Yellen, former Chair of the Federal Reserve, and two former White House Chiefs of Staff, Andrew Card and Denis McDonough.

Rich Anderson Attended the SRI Conference

HIGHLAND’s portfolio analyst Rich Anderson attended the 29th annual SRI Conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado from November 1st to November 3rd. The SRI Conference is the premier annual gathering of sustainable, responsible, and impact investment professionals working to direct the flow of investment capital toward a truly sustainable future. Rich was one of more than six hundred attendees who are seeking to generate positive financial returns while directing capital to the most pressing social, environmental, and cultural challenges. Notable speakers at the SRI Conference included Jeremy Grantham, co-founder and Chief Investment Strategist at GMO, Chad Myers, Chief Meteorologist at CNN, and Robert Jackson, Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

William Paterson University Financial Planning Club

Ed Leach, Partner and Wealth Advisor at HIGHLAND, spoke to the Financial Planning Club at William Paterson University this past fall semester. This is part of an effort led by Ed to grow relationships with university students studying financial planning to help in the launching of their careers. As a firm it is our responsibility to help the next generation of financial planners in any way we can.

HIGHLAND Client Appreciation Event

HIGHLAND hosted its third annual client appreciation event at The Brick House in Wyckoff, New Jersey on October 17th. The event featured dinner, drinks, and an entertaining presentation by Christian Newton, Regional Director at Dimensional Fund Advisors. Christian Newton is a frequent presenter at industry events and Dimensional Fund Advisor conferences. He helps both financial advisors and individuals understand Dimensional’s capital markets research and its application to portfolio management. In his “The Big Tease” presentation, Mr. Newton explored the foundations of behavioral psychology while poking fun at the number of times the media has gotten it wrong with emotion-inducing headlines.
